The SAMI (Satellite MIssion) app displays stunning high-definition 3D and 2D real time animation and simulations of ESA Earth Observation Satellites orbiting around the Earth.
The current version of the app is tailored to the following set of ESA Earth Observation missions: Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, Sentinel-5P, Sentinel-6, Swarm, SMOS, Cryosat-2, Aeolus, Cheops, Metop-SGA, Metop-SGB and Earthcare.
SAMI app displays the following elements of a mission scenario:
- orbit tracks, orbit ground-tracks and footprints (swath) of the instruments on-board
- the event of entering/exiting the area of visibility between the satellite and the ground stations
- moving parts deployments, like solar and antenna
- thrusters firing
With the editing capabilities of SAMI app, it is possible to:
- drive various camera views (camera attached to the Earth or to the satellite,..)
- select textures for the Earth's surface
- enable / disable display of instrument swaths
- make active/inactive a given ground station
It is possible to run a simulation and give the user control over time simulation parameters:
- Play / Pause, Speed factor
- set simulation start/stop time
- real-time simulation mode (set to UTC time)
- run in endless loop mode
The satellite position, attitude and swath footprint are obtained using Earth Observation CFI SW software engine used across ESA Earth Observation ground segments.

About SAMIEdit
SAMIEdit is a free app for iOS published in the Kids list of apps, part of Education.

To install SAMIEdit on your iOS device, just click the green Continue To App button above to start the installation process. How to install SAMIEdit on your iOS device:

- Once the SAMIEdit is shown in the iTunes listing of your iOS device, you can start its download and installation. Tap on the GET button to the right of the app to start downloading it.
- If you are not logged-in the iOS appstore app, you'll be prompted for your your Apple ID and/or password.
- After SAMIEdit is downloaded, you'll see an INSTALL button to the right. Tap on it to start the actual installation of the iOS app.
- Once installation is finished you can tap on the OPEN button to start it. Its icon will also be added to your device home screen.
